Referral networks work until it is time to settle up
An informal referral arrangement is easy to start and hard to end well. The difficulty is almost never the relationship - it is the absence of a shared record.

Two parties who agree on the arrangement can still disagree about what happened, because each is looking at their own notes. A referrer sees the introductions they made; the business sees the ones that turned into work.
Giving a referrer controlled visibility of their own referrals - status, eligible progress, commission - removes most of that friction without giving them access to the business account.
